fixed drops to 5.98%; 10-year Treasury down at 4.36%. Long-term
mortgage interest rates were lower Tuesday, and the benchmark
10-year Treasury bond yield decreased to 4.36 percent.
The
30-year fixed-rate average fell to 5.98 percent, and the 15-year
fixed-rate dropped to 5.31 percent. The 1-year adjustable
was unchanged at 3.76 percent.
The
30-year Treasury bond yield declined to 5.24 percent.

rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes
nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50
states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.
In
other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was
up 16.45 points, or 0.17 percent, finishing at 9,428.9. The
Nasdaq was up 21.62 points, or 1.24 percent, closing at 1,761.11.
